Official Statement From the RHA

3/12/2020: Today we learned from President Burwell, the Office of Campus Life, and other administrative offices throughout campus that starting on March 18th, classes for the remainder of the Spring 2020 Semester will be moved online. We also learned that all on-campus residents have been asked to move out by March 23rd at 5 pm. Given these updates, we have also had to make the difficult decision to cancel our Redefining Success for Women (Women’s History Month) Forum, RHA ‘Coach-Hall-A’ Week, and all other Hall Council and General Assembly sponsored events. Though we are experiencing unprecedented circumstances and may no longer have the ability to meet regularly together as a community, we have not forgotten about each of you. Your interests, your needs, and your health and safety remain the utmost priority to us.

We understand that words can never begin to describe the impact that these recent developments have on our community. Even as we are in the midst of Spring Break and making plans to adjust to a temporary new lifestyle, I ask that we still make the time in spite of the stress, the uncertainty, and the chaos that we all feel, to support each other, remembering that this is a challenge that we will overcome.

Upon close discussions with administrators within Housing and Residence Life shortly after receiving the news today, the RHA Executive Board will be sponsoring packing supplies for all residents throughout the move-out period. We hope that this will ensure a smoother and easier move-out process for all members of our community. More details will follow.

Moving forward, all six members of our team will also be preparing to travel across the country to move out of our homes at AU. While we may remain spread out across the country, advocacy and ongoing intentional collaborations with the Office of Campus Life, Housing and Residence Life, and other administrative offices across the campus will continue. As soon as we are settled, we will continue to look for ways to invest in building community. Our work has only just begun and we look forward to innovating solutions for this time.

Finally, we encourage all AU residents and community members to refer to the university’s regularly updated website about COVID-19 for updates and additional information. For all inquiries about housing and move-out, please contact Additionally, all students who are experiencing extenuating circumstances and may need to remain in the halls should contact as soon as possible.
